Hart To Return as Hitting Coach

Reid Hart and the Gothams have agreed on a new deal that will keep the Hitting Coach in Flushing for his 5th season. Hart was originally signed in 1902 after a successful season in Minnesota. He will make about 3.7 million dollars this season. At the press conference, Hart remarked, "As great as this team has been in the past, I really look forward to seeing what we can do this coming season. We finally have added some really fantastic bats...how many other teams can say that they have the three best hitters in UBA history on their team? None. Now we have the great offense to match our great pitching. We may be able to make a run at the best record in the league again..."

Gothams Name New Manager, Pitching Coach

Today, the New York Gothams formally announced the signing of Manager Matthew O'Keefe (Left) and Pitching Coach Francisco Mieses (Right). O'Keefe, the manager of the 76-86 Cincinnati Redlegs last season and formerly the manager of the Boston Bees, was signed to a 4 million dollar contract. Mieses, one of the most successful pitching coaches in the history of UBA, Inc., will be moving on to the Gothams after 5 seasons as the pitching coach for the Louisville Greys. Mieses was signed to a 3.5 million dollar contract, nearly 1.5 million more than he received last season. When asked about leaving Louisville, Mieses said "I had five fantastic years as a manager for the Greys. We won two World Championships, and two more League Championships. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to work with a pitching staff that has two of the best pitchers this league has ever seen (Mayne and Cone), and to help usher in a new era with super-prospect Max Garces in his first season. This season will be a lot of fun."

Out With The Old, In With The New

Ernest Smith

Hugh Newson

The New York Gothams and Baltimore Terrapins have agreed in principle to a trade that will send shortstop Hugh Newson, second baseman Jose Maduro, starting pitcher Kevin Cannon and first base prospect Hal Palmer to Baltimore in exchange for centerfielder Ernest Smith and a prospect. The deal is contingent on physicals, and can be officially announced tonight.

Gothams owner, simply known as "Mr.TheEdge", released the following annoucement regarding the pending trade:

"We have reached an agreement with the Terrapins of the American League to acquire one of their players. Ernest Smith was as force in the American League, as he won the MVP twice and the Silver Slugger Award in all five seasons. He would be a great addition to our team, and would form a deadly combination at the heart of our order with Voyles, Concepcion and Santana. We will greatly miss Hugh, Jose and Cannon. Hugh has been part of our family for years now, and has seen many of the ups and downs this franchise has experienced. Maduro and Cannon were relatively new to our team but were still big contributers during our successful 1905 season. We look forward to seeing them develop and become stars in the near future as Terrapins.

This type of opportunity only comes about once in a lifetime, and we are honored to add Smith as a member of the Gothams family very soon, and hope he can help us bring a Championship to New York."
